Try to find some time off from the busy TNC16 programme to visit some of the city’s many historical monuments and places of interest. Here’s a useful (walking tour) suggestion, taking about one hour to complete (excluding the time you’ll be standing still admiring all the eye candy the town has to offer, that is…).
Walk the Royal Path
A popular and interesting route is ‘the Royal Path’. For centuries Czech kings have passed along here, on the way to their coronations in St. Vít Catedral. On this walk you’ll see the most famous landmarks of Prague. Beginning at the Municipal House (the most famous art nouveau building in Prague), head to the Powder Tower, which is just a few steps away. Continue to Celetná street through the Old Town Square, where the Astronomical Clock is located. Follow the direction of Charles avenue to the Charles Bridge (the first foundation stone was laid by Charles IV.), which includes 16 arches and 30 Baroque statues of religious figures. From here you’ll get a beautiful view over Prague. After crossing the bridge you come to the Lesser Town. One of the eye catchers in that area is the famous St. Nicholas church.
Charles IV 700 year anniversary
This year, Prague and the Czech Republic as a whole celebrate an important anniversary: 2016 marks the 700th birth year of Charles IV, one of the greatest Czech kings and European rulers – Holy Roman Emperor. If you want more information about Charles IV, see this brochure (downloadable pdf).
Prague Museum Night
Just before the start of the conference the thirteenth Prague Museum Night will take place. It’s a great opportunity to visit one or more of the numerous museums and galleries that Prague is known for, for example the Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace, the Convent of St. Agnes Czech or the Maisel Synagogue… The main information point about Museum Night will be located on Wenceslas Square.
