Paul Rouse joins GÉANT Executive Team

We are delighted to announce Paul Rouse has joined the GÉANT Executive team as Chief Community Relations Officer (CCRO). Paul will be responsible for Partner and Stakeholder Relations, International Relations, Research Engagement, Community Support, and Learning and Development.

Paul is well known within the GÉANT community, having joined GÉANT in 2011 to take on the procurement function and subsequently grow and develop a highly respected procurement team. He quickly established himself as a highly effective, professional and valued member of the community.

Paul has overseen extensive procurement activity relating not only to the pan-European GÉANT network where he has secured extensive savings, but has also played a central role in the success of GÉANT’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service framework, as well as supporting research community engagement with EUMETSAT, ESA and ESnet. In fact, Paul’s involvement and influence continues to benefit numerous projects and initiatives across Europe and beyond, including the Eastern Partnership Connect project EaPConnect, the Collaboration Asia-Europe-1 (CAE-1) 100Gbps link between Singapore and London, as well as the BELLA project for direct connectivity on the EllaLink submarine cable linking Europe and Latin America.

Paul adds, “I’ve really enjoyed my time within GÉANT and the successes secured working with colleagues in our community. Now I have the chance to do more of this, helping shape GÉANT’s activities to continue to meet and exceed the needs of our community, working with a great team in the organisation, with colleagues in the GÉANT Community Programme and with our many partners and stakeholders.”

Alongside his Executive responsibilities, Paul will continue to oversee the procurement activity whilst a suitable replacement is secured.

Paul’s appointment goes hand in hand with changes of responsibility made in the GÉANT Executive team and a re-shuffle of the teams within the existing structure:

  • Klaas Wierenga has been appointed Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) and now leads the Software Development and Information Technology teams, as well as the Trust & Identity (T&I) Operations group, T&I Consultancy, Security, Cloud Services and Product Management teams.
  • Cathrin Stöver, Chief Communications Officer, now leads the Marketing Communications, Events, Design and EU Liaison Teams.
  • Matthew Scott, Chief Programmes Officer, leads the GÉANT Project Office which oversees 20+ projects including GN4-3 and GN4-3N, and is responsible for the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) process.
