Seeking to reinforce the role of the European Union (EU) as a global digital player, promoting international connectivity within Europe and between the EU and other continents and regions, this Conference has been jointly organised, under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and by ANACOM, with the support of aicep Global Parques.
This initiative will promote the sharing of strategies between different national and international stakeholders: network operators, OTTs, data centres, telehouses and IXPs, manufacturers/suppliers of undersea cables and promoters of international undersea cable projects.
The event will be held according to a hybrid model comprising both in-person and remote participation online.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, physical participation will be subject to public health restrictions applicable on the date of the event.
A tool for knowledge partnerships: European science and international connectivity
The value of cooperation and the benefits of connectivity partnerships will be the main topics for discussion at Session 5 on 28 May, 3 pm CEST. The panel will present key initiatives of the EU’s overall digital connectivity strategy, as the BELLA Programme and its efforts and funding towards the completion of the EllaLink transatlantic cable.
In this context, the EllaLink GeoLab initiative will be highlighted, as an innovative use of SMART concepts in submarine cables to provide the scientific community with real-time, accurate and relevant data on seabed conditions.
Speakers include representatives from the GÉANT Community as FCCN General Coordinator João Nuno Ferreira and Chris Atherton, Senior Research Engagement Officer at GÉANT.
