NRENs and EUDAT – Exploring future collaborations at the EUDAT Conference 2022 – 13-15 September

EUDAT Conference 2022

The EUDAT Conference 2022, is around the corner and we’re looking forward to participating! Organised by the EUDAT CDI in Athens, Greece on 13-15 September 2022, the event will cover the latest trends and developments in the field of research data management services and network with some of the most active players in the domain.

Exploring the role of NRENs and universities in data management: opportunities for collaboration (15 September, 14:30 CEST)

NRENs, universities and e-infrastructures such as EUDAT play important roles within the European research ecosystem. They provide research communities with relevant data support and tools that are critical to implement Open Science and the FAIR data principles.

Chaired by GÉANT’s EOSC Engagement Manager Sarah Jones, this session will explore the role of different stakeholders in providing support and how collaborations are needed across these actors to ensure researchers have the appropriate environment, tools and support to conduct their work. The requirements of NRENs and universities and how service providers such as EUDAT can best support them will also be considered.

The session will begin with three presentations to explore the role of NRENs and institutions in supporting data management, offering case studies from each perspective

  • The roles of NRENs and Universities in Data Management – Sarah Jones, GÉANT
  • How an NREN can support RDM – Roberto Sabatino, HEAnet
  • Supporting data management within institutions: observations from RSPace, Rory Macneil, RSpace

A series of panelists representing each stakeholder group and EUDAT will then explore the type of support each group is offering, the key challenges faced, and opportunities for collaboration.

Chair: Sarah Jones, GÉANT

Research Data Exhibition & Open Networking Session (14 September, 16:15 CEST)

GÉANT will also be present at the dedicated exhibition and networking session on 14 September at 16:15 CEST, a great occasion to establish new connections and learn all about the most innovative services and players in the field. Come meet us in the exhibition area, next to the OCRE project, or visit our online booth during the conference to access all our materials.

Who should attend and why

The event is open to all, but the following are highly encouraged to participate, such as:

  • Researchers and citizen scientists, repository and community managers
  • Actors in the EOSC community, ESFRI, science clusters, and research infrastructures
  • Projects, research institutions and national and European initiatives
  • Service providers
  • Current and prospective EUDAT users and user communities

About EUDAT

The EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (or EUDAT CDI) is one of the largest infrastructures of integrated data services and resources supporting research in Europe. It is sustained by a network of more than 20 European research organisations, data and computing centres. This infrastructure and its services have been developed in close collaboration with over 50 research communities spanning across many different scientific disciplines and involved at all stage of the design process.

EUDAT counts several NRENs (SURF, CSC, Jisc, DeIC, FCT-FCCN, GRNET, SIKT) as members, playing different roles within EUDAT. Some NRENs are service providers and offer services and resources through EUDAT and are operating central and/or operational tools. Other NRENs contribute to the development of services and/or technologies, are active in documentation and/or testing of services or are active in the EUDAT Board.
