Digital Wallets – Paving the way for the future of Learning and Collaboration

How many times have you picked up a parcel and been asked to show some form of proof of identity? Either a driving licence or even a bank card. In the physical world we have wallets full of such identities without which many things in our lives would be impossible.

Digital wallets, where we can demonstrate our credentials online in a secure, privacy preserving manner will become essential for our connected online lives and within the R&E community and will be vital to support open and accessible education. As such GÉANT, NRENs, Institutions and our partners across the Trust and Identity space are crucial to enabling and supporting future developments in digital wallets.

This infoshare provided a detailed yet accessible introduction to the work being undertaken in this field across our community and was a great success with over 100 attendees on the day.

The session recordings and content are all available at.

The community needs you!

As with all collaborations, we need the community to help us understand what is needed and wanted so we sought input from NRENs on their involvement in (inter)national activities that may not yet be widely known. Ultimately, the aim is to build consensus around the GÉANT community’s future in this space.

We surveyed the community to help us understand what is already happening in the community and to collect basic information about NRENs activities on wallets and seek ideas and inspiration for further information sharing and collaboration on this topic.

The survey has now closed and we will be sharing the results of the survey and planned actions in the very near future.
