In January, CESNET reached a major milestone by connecting the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences as the first institution to the CESNET backbone (e-INFRA CZ) at 400 Gb/s!
The Institute of Physics plays a crucial role in processing data from CERN experiments and is a key user of the large-scale e-INFRA CZ network, operated by CESNET, CERIT-SC in Brno, and IT4Innovations in Ostrava.
Before the upgrade, its 200 Gb/s connection was operating at 70% load, no longer meeting the demands of massive data transfers. This was evident during WLCG Data Challenge 24, a global stress test of scientific IT infrastructure, where an incredible 2.1 PB of data flowed out and 2.5 PB flowed in—all within just 4.5 days!
With this enhanced capacity and the upcoming boost in connectivity to the pan-European GÉANT network, the Institute of Physics is now even better equipped to contribute to the global scientific effort related to the CERN experiments.
At CESNET, we’re proud to push the boundaries of network infrastructure to power cutting-edge science! 🚀
