MREN constitutes new Board of Directors and sets plan ahead for Montenegrin R&E

MREN, the Montenegro Research and Education Network, held a constitutive session to elect its new Board of Directors at the premises of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro on Friday 9 May 2025.

Prof. Dr. Božo Krstajić was elected as the President of the Board, while Prof. Dr. Enis Kočan, M.Sc. Marica Melović, Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Popović, Prof. Dr. Tomo Popović, Prof. Dr. Maja Delibašić were appointed as members.

During the session, the newly formed Board and the Ministry discussed fundamental topics for the future of Research and Education in Montenegro, including the current state of the MREN network and initiatives for its expansion, interconnecting more universities nationally and connecting them with the global R&E community through MREN’s connection with the pan-European GÉANT network. Additionally, the session addressed plans for the introduction of the eduGAIN interfederation service in Montenegro, which would allow MREN users to get simple and secure access to a wide range of online R&E resources and services.

Finally, the session yielded the conclusion that strengthening the National Research and Education Network in Montenegro is of strategic importance for the digitalisation and international integration of the Montenegrin scientific space.
