For the first time, the Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence for NRENs (SIG-AI), and the Task Force for Educational Technologies (TF-EDU) will collaborate on Monday 8 September 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This meeting will take place the day before the NORDUnet Community Workshop 2025 (NCW2025) starts, which is hosted by NORDUnet.
AI in Education
Across all joint sessions, we aim to explore the diverse landscape of AI applications and perspectives within the education sector.
The meeting will contribute directly to TF-EDU’s development of a forward-looking roadmap, supporting our shared understanding of sectoral changes, and helping to guide the future of educational delivery. Members of the TF-EDU Steering Committee will share their years of collective insight and dialogue from within our community. This collaborative discussion will bring together stakeholders from NRENs, educational institutions, international bodies, governments, and industry, offering a unique platform to share experiences and shape the future of education.
The day will consist of two Lightning Talk sessions, and a panel discussion on challenges, opportunities, and the role of NRENs. There will also be a ‘Motivational Talk’ from Panos Louridas (GRNET), and a final session including breakout groups before a dinner in the evening.
SIG-AI
SIG-AI explores the potential applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the context of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). The group will delve into how AI can enhance cybersecurity, above-the-net services, network management, and network services currently offered by GÉANT and the NRENs. This SIG will also look at new EC regulations concerning AI and how they affect GÉANT and the NRENs.
TF-EDU
TF-EDU aims to gather information, discuss and develop tools and best practices to address the common issues faced by NRENs with regards to their educational services and activities. The areas of interest include the digital learning environment – such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Analytics (LA), Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) – eduID, Open Educational Resources (OER) and more.
Remote participation will not be available for this meeting.
