At the November GÉANT General Assembly (GA) meeting, our members voted for the position of Chair of the Board and two open GÉANT Board Member positions. The open positions are a result of Chair of the Board Gilles Massen, and Board Members Heidi Fraser-Krauss and George Konnis each reaching the end of their first term.
We’re delighted to announce that Gilles Massen of Restena has been re-elected for a further three-year term having served as Chair since November 2022.
Gilles Massen – Restena – re-elected for a 3-year term
Gilles is CEO of Restena, having joined in 1999 as a trainee and in his current role since 2017. The Restena Foundation interconnects and provides network and security services for research and education institutions in Luxembourg, as well as in the health, culture and national administration sectors. It also manages the .lu domain name registration infrastructure, the top-level domain name for Luxembourg.
“Becoming Chair of the GÉANT Board of Directors three years ago was a privilege. In that time, we have seen significant changes, with the successful recruitment of new CEO Lise Fuhr and the award of the EuroHPC hyperconnectivity tender, a new area for us which has strengthened our community and our processes. And we are witnessing a rapidly developing landscape, for which GÉANT must remain ready. To that end, over the coming year I aim to help secure GÉANT’s long term resilience and stability by future-proofing the articles of our Association and working with the Board and GÉANT’s Executive team to finalise and introduce the new strategy. I have informed the GA of my intention to step down in a year to make room for a new Chair but will of course remain in position until the new Chair is selected.”
Heidi Fraser-Krauss – Jisc – re-elected for a 3-year term
Heidi is the CEO of Jisc, a role held since September 2021. Jisc is a not-for-profit membership organisation that provides the UK universities, colleges and skills sectors with a shared digital infrastructure including the UK’s NREN, Janet. Heidi has served on the GÉANT Board since November 2022.
George Konnis – CYNET – re-elected for a 3-year term
George is the Managing Director of CYNET, (Cyprus Research and Academic Network), and Head of the Cyprus Academic Computer Security Incident Response Team (CYNET-CSIRT). George has served on the GÉANT Board since November 2022.
