The GÉANT Special Interest Group on Procurement (SIG-Procurement) will hold its sixth official online meeting on 16 April 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00 CEST.
This upcoming session will bring together procurement professionals from across the research and education networking community to discuss critical suppliers, strategic supplier management, and the rising costs of laptops and semiconductor chips influencing our community. The meeting will also provide a brief update on the SIG’s future direction with a focus on developing a more unified tendering agenda.
Meeting highlights
The two-hour session will combine presentations, updates, and open discussion. Key segments include:
- An overview of the SIG’s strategic plans and an update on GÉANT’s upcoming procurement agenda.
- Olaf Verschoor (GÉANT) will share GÉANT’s activities linking to critical suppliers and supplier management, followed by a community discussion on shared experiences and approaches for maintaining supplier relationships.
- Garvan McFeely (Asiera) will present insights into the recent market pressures affecting procurement across the sector, focusing on the rise in prices of chips and laptops.
- The session will conclude with a brief survey and a quick update on the TNC plans for Helsinki.
Participants are encouraged to engage in discussion and share their own organisational experiences related to procurement challenges and opportunities.
