Learn how your work connects globally
The eduGAIN Academy is the official self-paced training programme made up of five short courses on Federated Identity Management (FIM). Located on GÉANT’s eAcademy platform, it uses avatar-led learning to guide you from the basics through to more advanced, practical topics.
Along the way, you’ll build an understanding of how institutions connect to eduGAIN and what that means in practice for research and education communities.
What you’ll explore
It begins with the basics, exploring the difference between authentication and authorisation, and trust models.
From there, it moves into the technology behind it, including SAML protocol, metadata, and the roles of IdPs and SPs. You can also discover how to connect your institution globally, and the compliance and security aspects that come with this, including master policy management, attribute release, and incident handling (SIRTFI). You will learn how to use operational tools and support your federation community.
Who it’s for
The Academy is primarily tailored for IT administrators, identity managers, and those aspiring to become Federation Operators (FedOps), as it provides the technical foundations needed to deploy and maintain identity infrastructures. At the same time, the programme is fully open to every researcher or student registered on the GÉANT eAcademy who wishes to explore the world of Federated Identity Management.
How to access
You can find the modules on GÉANT’s eAcademy platform under Technical Skills and the Trust & Identity section.
