GÉANT Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign 2026: Securing devices

Our devices have become extensions of our daily lives. They give access to our work, research, ideas, accounts and the people we connect with every day. Because of this, they have also become valuable targets for cybercriminals.

The GÉANT Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign 2026 will focus on a challenge shared across sectors, including Research and Education: securing devices.

From laptops and smartphones to tablets and removable media, the devices we use every day play an important role in keeping our digital lives safe. Simple actions such as keeping software up-to-date, locking devices when stepping away, using trusted apps and staying alert while travelling, can significantly reduce security risks.

This year’s campaign will encourage small, practical habits to help protect both individuals and organisations. The campaign is designed for the wider GÉANT community, including NREN staff, researchers, students, educators and awareness officers who want to reuse and adapt the materials locally.

What to expect

Throughout the campaign, the community will have access to a range of ready-to-use awareness materials, including:

  • short animated awareness videos
  • practical leaflets with tips and guidance
  • a ready-made presentation for awareness officers

The materials will focus on practical, everyday behaviours around topics such as:

  • maintaining devices properly
  • protecting access to devices
  • working safely
  • using devices securely when travelling.

The campaign builds on previous awareness initiatives, with a strong focus on positive, accessible and actionable security messaging.
