Iceland – the home of High Performance Computing

At the beginning of 2017, we formed a collaboration with Janet, GÉANT and NORDUnet to achieve connectivity into our data center for Earlham Institute’s high performance compute (HPC), advanced genomics and computational biology.

Earlham Institute’s research team is based in Norwich, in the UK. They have taken the decision to migrate their HPC platform to our Icelandic data center to benefit from low cost, long-term energy (offering savings up to 70% compared to the UK) provided by 100% sustainable, renewable sources. To achieve this a robust, and cost effective connectivity solution was required. This we achieved by working in partnership with Janet, GÉANT and NORDUnet.

We would be delighted to take you through this case study in more detail and will be at TNC17 at stand 17, with my colleagues to address any queries you may have. We can demonstrate to universities and other research institutes the advantages of Iceland’s unique energy profile and what our optimised data center can provide.
