The Republic of North Macedonia’s first GÉANT Information Day was held in Skopje on Wednesday 6 June 2018, organised by MARnet in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering (FCSE).
The event was opened by Mr. Ivica Dimitrovski, the Vice Dean for academic affairs from FCSE, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, which uses GÉANT services and actively participates in the GÉANT (GN4) project. The guests were also welcomed by the Minister for Information Society and Administration and Mr. Sasko Mukaetov, Managing Director of MARnet (pictured above with Eva Nestorovska of MARnet).
59 people registered for the event from all state universities and other institutions.
The attendance was higher than expected since there were 6 participants from St. Clement of Ohrid University of Bitola, 7 from University Goce Delcev Stip, 12 from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and 10 from State University of Tetovo as well as other participants.
High interest in eduroam and cloud services
One of the services the participants were eager to find out more about after hearing and seeing all the presentations was eduroam. They wanted to know more about the service itself and the way it can be implemented in their faculties and universities immediately, since they recognised its practicality and the advantages it offers.
The Cloud/Infrastructure as a Service Framework agreement was mentioned and a discussion was started on how it can be implemented across the country.
A presentation on the next phase of the GÉANT project (GN4-3) highlighted how additional contributions could be made in order for MARnet and the wider research and education community to participate even more, and many attendees were interested to find out how they can apply and participate in the project.
A lot of information was shared in a short period of time and the interest was very high for immediate implementation which made the event such a success.
