Towards implementing the European student eID: NRENs and HEIs invited to MyAcademicID conference

National research and education network (NRENs) representatives and European Student Mobility Initiative stakeholders are invited to participate in the final online conference of the EU-funded MyAcademicID project, on 14 and 15 December 2020. The event will present the MyAcademicID results, how they support the digital transformation of the Erasmus+ programme, and how HEIs can engage in this process.

The conference is aimed at NREN staff members and at the ICT and international relations staff of HEIs, but anyone is welcome to participate. Registration is open.

Supporting student mobility

MyAcademicID project work supports student mobility regarding online access to the renewed Erasmus+ services. The project delivered the MyacademicID Blueprint Architecture, which describes a platform to enable electronic identification and authentication for higher education students through a single European student e-identity (eID) scheme. The European student eID for Higher Education is the result of the integration of eduGAIN, eIDAS and the European Student Identifier. GÉANT participation brokered the participation of eduGAIN and federation operators and enabled them to play an active role to support Erasmus community needs.

The MyAcademicID project plays a key role in implementing the vision of the European Student Card Initiative, which will ensure the secure and seamless exchange of student information between higher education institutions taking part in the Erasmus programme by 2023, and will give Erasmus students access to electronic services through a single sign-on when going abroad.

Aim of the conference

In the final MyAcademicID conference, the project team will present the use-cases that drove the work in MyAcademicID and the current deployment of the MyAcademicID platform. There will also be an overview of the future plans regarding the European policy context of the European Student Card initiative and for further development of the MyAcademicID outcomes.
