GÉANT supports Web Accessibility Directive

The Web Accessibility Directive, which complements the European Accessibility Act, aims to give people with disabilities better access to online public services, by requiring public-sector organisations to make sure that their websites and apps meet minimum accessibility requirements.

GÉANT is fully supportive of this and, although not a public-sector organisation, is ensuring all new websites produced meet the Directive and are therefore not only more inclusive but more user-friendly overall. For example, just the ability to increase font size, alter contrast, make hyperlinks more obvious, and to switch to a readable format can offer a significantly improved experience for all audiences.

Websites including those for eduroam, CONNECT, InAcademia, IMPACT, Security, and the recently created Network website all have this functionality – as indicated by the accessibility symbol on the side of the page.

The same functionality will also be included on the new GÉANT website which is scheduled for rollout in the near future.
