Join us at the annual GARR Conference, which brings together the GARR network’s user community from the fields of research, education, and cultural heritage in Italy. The 2024 edition will be held at the University of Brescia from 29th to 31st May.
Over these three days, more than 60 speakers from across Italy and beyond will explore the theme Navigating Complexity: Digital Infrastructures and Skills for Research.
Day one will focus on developing digital infrastructures and research skills, featuring a roundtable with institutional representatives and discussions on AI’s impact on research and education, including experiences with applications and the creation of an Italian Large Language Model.
Day two explores strategies to navigate rapid digital changes, addressing big data, digital twins, and new research infrastructures, with special attention to AI, supercomputing, and quantum communications. There will also be insights into cybersecurity developments and EU directives affecting academia and research.
Day three highlights open science and its link to digital autonomy, with sessions on sharing importance and digital platforms’ roles in promoting independence and transparency, featuring Caterina Sganga from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, along with international guests like Jean-Claude Guédon from the University of Montreal and Björn Brembs from the University of Regensburg. This session will be in English.
Finally, digital rights will be covered, discussing privacy, data protection, and the role of education in mitigating risks related to personal information misuse.
