SIG-Sustainability’s first virtual meeting on 26 September 2024

The new Special Interest Group on Sustainability (SIG-Sustainability) are meeting virtually for the first time on Thursday 26 September 2024 at 15:00- 1700 (GMT+1).

What is SIG-Sustainability?

The group has been created with the aim for each member to share their information regarding their sustainability ambitions. Within the NREN community, there is a growing need to monitor and measure our sustainability impact against agreed targets, particularly in terms of Green House Gas emissions and energy utilisation. Each member has a differently level of maturity and plans around sustainability topics such as:

  • Carbon footprint
  • Climate resilience and adaptation
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Responsible procurement
  • Resource consumption
  • Supplier and client engagement
  • Diversity and Inclusivity
  • Investment and many other associated topics

Through sharing each member’s plans, everyone will be able to learn together to develop the overall strength of the group in relation to sustainability and deliver a positive impact across the UN Sustainability Development Goals.

First virtual meeting

The agenda has been created to provide new members with an overview of some of the Sustainability Initiatives that are taking place in NREN organisations and to drive increased communications between organisations on this topic. Following an introduction, throughout the meeting there will be various updates from NRENs include HEAnet, Jisc, SURF, and GÉANT. The meeting will end with a round table discussion for all to contribute to.
