Hello, and welcome to CONNECT 50!
Life begins at 50, apparently. Whether you agree with that or not you must surely agree that reaching the 50th edition of the CONNECT magazine is quite a milestone. Having started this magazine almost single-handedly many, many years ago, I then wondered what I’d let myself in for and very quickly needed as much help as I could get my hands on, so that we’d make it to the next edition! That help has since taken many forms from an almost limitless supply of excellent NREN articles, to guest contributors, to great cover design work, to a very long list of fascinating interviewees who have all helped to make this magazine so successful. And, of course, a great team putting every edition together behind the scenes, who have also helped CONNECT to successfully grow from a magazine to include a website and newsletter in more recent years. I’d like to thank everybody who has contributed in some way or other since that first edition – whatever form CONNECT takes in the future it will continue to represent all of our diverse community thanks to all of you.
So, what does this online edition hold for you? First off, an excellent in-depth look at what the EuroHPC JU award means for the GÉANT community, following the joint press release issued in September. We also highlight the 2025 Cybersecurity Month campaign and take the opportunity to look back over 25 years of security in the GÉANT community. The SIGs for sustainability and procurement get the spotlight treatment; and we welcome contributions from partners around the world – including those as far afield as Brazil, West and Central Africa, and Uganda. We even dip below the ocean surface to learn more about the team using submarine cables to offer new insights into this hidden world. And, as always, there is so much more from our community and partners.
