The eduGAIN training team is pleased to announce the next Federation Operators training event will take place from 30 March to 3 April 2026, and will be kindly hosted by RENATER, in Paris, France at the GIP RENATER Headquarters.
This training will introduce new federation operators and staff members of new identity federations to the general concepts, the protocols, the tools and best practices around the management of identity federations, their metadata, the community members, and eduGAIN as the global academic interfederation service.
Designed for new or prospective Federation Operators (FedOps), the training aims to build essential operational skills. Participants will gain hands-on experience by deploying their own Identity Providers, Service Providers, Discovery Services, and creating their own federation metadata, sign them and configure all required federations tools and services.
The training will aim to gather around 25 students, and will provide them with lectures on the main topics highlighted below:
- Introduction to Federated Identity management and Single Sign-On
- Introduction to the SAML2 protocol and eduGAIN and the new trends
- eduGAIN Technical aspects and related tools and services
- The GÉANT Trust and Identity (T&I) services
- The Shibboleth Identity Provider and Service Provider
- Discovery Services
- Metadata signing and distribution
- Introduction to the OpenID Federation
- Community Support and Best Practices
- eduGAIN Security

Participation is free of charge, but travel and hosting expenses will need to be covered by the participants at their own expense. If you are interested in participating, please apply for registration.
