Call for GÉANT Audit and Risk Advisory Committee Member

The GÉANT Association is a membership of European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). For decades, the Association has built networks, physical and human, across Europe and around the world. The collaboration model of the Association facilitates a multiplier effect of networks and services that is unmatched, creating the digital foundation for all research and education in Europe.

The GEANT Audit and Risk Advisory Committee (ARAC) advises the GÉANT Board of Directors on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Association’s financial reporting, governance, risk and controls frameworks. The Committee seeks a new member with a strong internal audit background to contribute to effective oversight of governance, risk management, and internal control systems.

Requirements

All ARAC members are expected to demonstrate:

  • A strong affinity with the full scope of ARAC responsibilities, including governance, compliance, risk management, and internal control. (While subject-matter expertise exists within the Committee, all topics are discussed and decided collectively.)
  • Willingness and availability to prepare for and attend approximately five ARAC meetings per year (typically three virtual meetings and two in-person meetings, scheduled between 10:00–16:00 CET); and participate, where relevant, in temporary ARAC working groups established to address specific topics.
  • A strong knowledge of the English language.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to formulate clear recommendations, not just analyses.
  • Willingness to operate in line with the ARAC Terms of Reference.

Specific Experience and Expertise

  • Proven experience as an internal auditor and/or coordinator of internal audit activities, preferably in an NREN or similar organisation.
  • Broad knowledge of internal audit domains, including: IT and information security (e.g. ISO 27000 series or similar frameworks), governance and organisational controls, regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. data protection, cybersecurity, EC regulatory frameworks), and awareness of emerging technology-related risks (e.g. cybersecurity, AI).
  • Demonstrated experience in the interaction between internal and external audit.

Additional Assets (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Experience as a supervisory board member and/or Audit Committee member.
  • Experience working in an international or multinational environment.

What We Offer

  • Membership of a professional and engaged Audit and Risk Advisory Committee operating in a complex international context.
  • A professional, collegial and ambitious working environment.
  • Reimbursement of (out-of-pocket) expenses.

Selection Process

Interest is invited from across the GÉANT community until 23 June 2026 (midnight CEST). If you are interested in being part of the ARAC, please email a short biography together with a short (1 page max.) document that explains your motivation and how you fulfil the profile sought to governance@geant.org. The co-Chairs of the Committee shall review all interest received and arrange a time to meet and discuss your interest in the vacancy further before proposing the selected Committee members to GÉANT’s Board of Directors for approval.
