Reducing pest damage in banana plantations

With pesticide application in banana plantations as a case, a Philippine innovation project is developing smart technologies that can support decision-making in agriculture.

Behind the effort is the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) through its ROAMER project (Robot for Optimized and Autonomous Mission-Enhancement Responses).

The ROAMER project seeks to optimize pesticide use in farming by enabling data-driven application and minimizing farmers’ exposure to harmful chemicals.

The project aligns with an ongoing collaboration involving DOST-ASTI and the Department of Agriculture – Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (DA-FPA).
