RIPE meetings are a five-day event where Internet service providers, network operators, NRENs and other interested parties from around the world gather to participate in the activities of the RIPE Community and the policies, procedures and services of the RIPE NCC.
RIPE77 kicked off this afternoon in Amsterdam with a plenary:
- Thomas Weible (Flexoptix) presented on “400G – Don’t Get Confused with this Transceiver Generation” covering the 40G, 100G and 400G transceiver evolution, interoperability and power requirements.
- Sara Dickenson (Sinodun) presented on “It’s DNS Jim, but not as you know it” covering the changes to the infrastructure to support more secure DNS resolution. As part of @DNSPrivacyProj and active in the development of DNS-over-TLS also covered DNS-over-HTTPS and some of the implications of GDPR on the exporting and use of our queries for domain names.
- Steinhor Bjarnason (Arbor Networks) presentation titled “Withstanding the Infinite: DDoS Defense in the Terabit Era” looked at the need for protecting your network from the innovation of hackers to scale attacks to overpower your network no matter the size.
- Giovane Moura (SIDN Labs & TU Delft) repeated the talk “When the Dike Breaks: Dissecting DNS Defenses During DDoS” from the previous day which highlighted the need for DNS caching to sustain your DNS service in the face of a DDoS.
These plenaries were focused on the increasing scale of the network for increased capacity and the need for improved security because of the negative effect of this capacity being in the hand’s hackers. The plenary sessions concluded with a few Lightning Talks.
