IUCC hosts GDPR workshop

In light of technological developments that allow the nearly unlimited collection and exchange of information on the internet, cellular internet and the Internet of Things (IoT), protecting privacy has become a vital right, and a vulnerability, for individuals.

On December 13, 2017 Israel’s Inter-University Computation Center (IUCC) hosted a well-attended workshop on the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to protect personal privacy. The workshop was attended by dozens of university representatives, among them CISOs, computer center directors and legal counsels.

The two-track programme focused on operational issues related to databases that include personal data on EU residents like students and researchers. The second track, and to a degree the more complex, focused on issues related to datasets used by researchers that can contain personal data on EU residents.
