GÉANT is proud to announce the GN5-2 project proposal has successfully passed European Commission (EC) evaluation and will now move to the Grant Agreement stage, ready for the project to start 1 January 2025.
GN5-2 follows predecessor project GN5-1 and is the next stage in the long-running and transformative GÉANT Project that has supported Europe’s research and education communities for over 20 years. Representing all of Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) the GÉANT Project is a highly successful example of pan-European collaboration.
With a 30-month duration and €80M of EC grant funding, GN5-2 continues the series of projects within GN5-FPA, the 7-year strategic framework that outlines the overall direction, objectives, and impacts of individual projects within that timeframe as part of Horizon Europe – the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation.
GÉANT is a fundamental element of Europe’s e-infrastructure landscape for the European Research Area (ERA) and enabler of scientific excellence, research, education and innovation. The GN5-2 project aims to provide faster, resilient, agile and secure connectivity and collaboration services for an increasing amount of data, to enable scientists, researchers, educators and students access to near-real-time applications that support evidence-based decision-making in society, and effective collaboration of virtual research and learning communities, worldwide.
Tryfon Chiotis, GÉANT’s interim Chief Programmes Officer added, “Following the successful review of GN5-1, the positive evaluation of the GN5-2 proposal clearly demonstrates that the GÉANT community’s goals and ambitions remain closely aligned with those of our co-funding partner, the European Commission, as well as with the overarching objectives of the Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA). We extend our gratitude to the many contributors across the consortium who played a role in developing the proposal, particularly the co-authors, Work Package and Task Leaders, the GÉANT Project Planning Committee (GPPC), GÉANT Board, and General Assembly (GA) for their invaluable input, guidance, constructive support, and collaboration.”
