Despite the COVID pandemic severely restricting travel across Europe, the GÉANT engineering team along with our supplier partners have still been working hard on the building of the next generation Research and Education network for Europe, as part of the GN4-3N project.
This network will extend ultra-high capacity fibre networking across the majority of Europe to help further research and education, support equal access to cloud services and provide cost effective pan-European connectivity to help bridge the digital divide and support international research collaboration.
While engineering teams continue to provision fibre services, the first IP traffic has been sent across a part of the new network between Lisbon and Porto
