In 2021, in the context of the NI4OS-Europe project, around 100 individual researchers signed the Declaration for NOSCI.mk and established the National Open Science Cloud Initiative in North Macedonia. The next step in the development of NOSCI.mk was the MoU signing between the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, whose Faculty of computer science and engineering is the only member of the EOSC Association in the country, and all the institutions interested in contributing to the establishment of open science practices, principles and infrastructures in North Macedonia.
MARnet, the National Research and Education Network in North Macedonia, was one of the first institutions to sign the MoU, demonstrating its dedication to support the national open science efforts. Signees of the MoU commit to support the inclusion of the Macedonian research communities in the European Open Science Cloud initiatives as well as in the EDI, RDA and GO FAIR projects. These organisations will work to promote broader participation in European projects related to the above-mentioned areas and topics, as well as explore the possibilities for a larger number of Macedonian institutions to take part in ESFRI and other pan-European research infrastructures. Most importantly, all participants are committed to support the Ministry of Education and Science in the development of the national legislation that will be based on the principles of open science.
