Are you a technician and want to know more about Quantum Internet? Do you know what quantum information is, how it is processed and transferred and which technologies are used? QuTech, SURF, KPN, and OPNT are building a Quantum Internet and its services. It is feasible, but complex. Join this workshop and have a look in our kitchen!

12:30 – 13:00 | Arrival and refreshments |
13:00 – 13:15 | Welcome and introduction Theo Lodewijkx / QuTech and Ingrid Romijn / QDNL |
13:15 – 14:00 | Hardware challenges of a future quantum internet. Erwin van Zwet / QuTech |
A qubit is not just your regular piece of information: a zero or a one. It is a superposition of a zero state and a one state. This presentation gives insight into infrastructures that create qubits and that can entangle qubits so they can be used for extremely secure applications that cannot be hacked. The challenges we are facing in handling qubits are comparable to the engineering challenges of the conventional computer and communication systems of the 60’s.
14:00 – 14:30 | Timing and frequency services Marco Gorter / OPNT b.v. |
You cannot be too late for this session because with OPNT time is on your side! Time and frequency must be accurate in quantum networks. But not only in quantum networks; OPNT is leading in delivering time and frequency solutions for many use-cases in just as many sectors. After this presentation, you will look at your watch differently, now knowing what these services are all about.
14:30 – 15:00 | Break |
15:00 – 15:45 | QNE ADK application source code walkthrough and a short QKD challenge Bart van der Vecht / QuTech |
The Quantum Network Explorer and Application Development Kit will get your hands dirty! In this session, you will learn what the QNE and ADK is all about and how you can jump-start building your own quantum applications and simulate them. But I am not a devops engineer? Well, no problem, we guide you gently through the code but we do dare you to solve our Quantum Key Distribution problem.
15:30 – 16:15 | Deploying quantum network services Rob Smets / SURF |
Quantum network services exist! And yes, they can be deployed nation-wide using SURF’s production grade Automation and Orchestration platform. While hardware is being developed, performance will be simulated using NetSquid and a programmable control plane. In this session, you can experience this for yourself in a live demonstration and learn all about what it takes to deploy quantum services.
16:15 – 16:30 | Closing Theo Lodewijkx / QuTech and Ingrid Romijn / QDNL |
16:30 – 18:00 | Socialize with a drink and a snack! |
