The 25th Special Interest Group on Network Operations Centres (SIG-NOC) meeting will be held on 11-12 November 2026, hosted by RedIRIS in Madrid. It will take place over two half-days, including a dinner.
Both on-site and online participation is possible.
Day one will begin with a Network eAcademy Infoshare. The Network eAcademy team is organising a workshop to dig deeper into the contents of the Network eAcademy, what AI can do for Network Management and what work would be relevant to follow up in new courses or workshops in the Network eAcademy. The first session will cover routing security and includes flash talks from NOC teams, followed by a session on AI for network management, looking at how generative AI is being applied in this space today and what to expect when AI-driven agents shape the next generation of autonomous network operations.
Later in the afternoon, Ivana Golub (PCSS) will lead a discussion focusing on the question “Are we IP and Optical NOCs, or more?”. With an increasing demand for non-IP services, are NOC people the same people that manage Quantum, Fibre-sensing, or Time and Frequency networks? The session will look at who is currently responsible for these services and what use cases we find in our networks.
The first day concludes with an informal group dinner.
Day two will start with a SIG-NOC tools survey preparation with Maria Isabel Gandia (CSUC). SIG-NOC traditionally asks for the trends in the tools used by R&E organisations to manage their networks for each function involved in network operations. The session will review the existing survey structure and decide on what to add or remove for the next survey, ensuring to reflect the growing usage of AI.
The final part of the programme looks at flow monitoring at scale, with a session on Akvorado, an open-source network traffic analysis and flow collection tool that is seeing increasing adoption among R&E organisations. This talk will explore how it works, some use cases, and the potential for collaboration at a broad scale to use flow monitoring tools.
The meeting will close with an evaluation session and a discussion of future topics.
