Internet2 Community Exchange has a new name: the Internet2 Global Summit. It’s a familiar annual spring convening for many, evolved into a premier strategic gathering where U.S. and international research and higher education (R&E) leaders confront the forces reshaping their institutions and set the community’s collective direction.
The 2027 Internet2 Global Summit, April 5-8 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, brings the R&E community together around the challenges creating real uncertainty: budget pressures, AI disruption, data governance, shifting federal policy, and a rapidly evolving global infrastructure landscape. The program gives leaders and their teams space to shape strategy, engage in policy conversations, and chart a path forward for the R&E ecosystem.
This year’s theme — Shared Future. Collective Strength. — reflects the role of collaboration in navigating these challenges. The most consequential questions facing R&E are not solved by individual institutions or organizations alone. They require shared perspectives, collective action, and international collaboration.
Shape the 2027 Global Summit program
The Call for Proposals is open through September 18, 2026, inviting contributions from across the global R&E community.
Proposals should be strategic and policy-oriented, focused on the questions that matter most to this community:
- What should we do?
- How should the R&E community position itself?
- How do we work together to get there?
Global Summit’s program is built around three strategic tracks, each focused on a decision the R&E community is facing right now. Every session is designed around strategy, policy, and institutional decision-making, not technical implementation.

- The Future of R&E Infrastructure
- Data Privacy, Compliance & Research Collaboration
One community, two Internet2 events
Internet2’s two major annual events are complementary forums for advancing the R&E community’s work across the full year.
Global Summit, held each spring, is where the community sets strategy and direction. Technology Exchange, held each fall, is where the community implements the strategies and commitments Global Summit helps produce. Together, the two events connect strategic direction with technical capability, charting a path for community progress.
