New Learning Unit in the Network eAcademy on AI: “Reinforcement Learning”

A new learning unit is ready for you in the Artificial Intelligence track of the Network e-Academy! This learning unit  provides an introduction to reinforcement learning (RL) in which agents learn to make decisions by interacting with their environment. Participants will explore the fundamental concepts of reinforcement learning, including the Markov Decision Process (MDP) framework, and understand how agents learn to maximise rewards through experience.

The course introduces different types of reinforcement learning, including model-based and model-free approaches, highlighting their underlying principles, advantages, and limitations. Participants will also examine key challenges in RL, such as sample efficiency, exploration versus exploitation, and the complexity of real-world environments.

As the first course on Network eAcademy to introduce the new Jupyter Notebook feature, this course offers participants an interactive, hands-on learning experience. A short Python-based Jupyter Notebook exercise allows learners to explore reinforcement learning concepts in practice, marking an important step towards integrating interactive coding.

Participants will benefit from:

  • A clear understanding of the Markov Decision Process framework and its core components
  • Insights into different reinforcement learning approaches, including model-based and model-free methods
  • An overview of the key challenges and limitations of reinforcement learning
  • Practical experience with fundamental RL concepts using Python and Jupyter Notebook

For more information about the AI training visit https://wiki.geant.org/spaces/NETDEV/pages/1351221266/Artificial+Intelligence+Training. And don’t miss the chance to join our monthly open meetings. On the first Tuesday of every month, trainers and experts of the Network eAcademy are available during one-hour calls to answer all your questions and to collect your feedback and training requests. Simply contact the Network eAcademy team at network-eacademy@lists.geant.org to receive the link to join the room.
