Every year, REFEDS undertakes a survey of global Federation Operators to get a sense of where we are as a community in supporting federated identity. 2018 was no exception, and the full results can be found on the REFEDS wiki. So what did we learn and what has changed in the four years since we started the survey? This blog post reveals a number of important considerations for Identity Federations and NREN operations including:
* Need to review the budgets allocated to identity federations to meet community requirements.
* A shift towards identity federations offering more centrally managed subscription services.
* Slow uptake of important standards to achieve federation maturity.
* More focus by federations on general operations than innovation.
