Vasos Papageorgiou: very GLAD to have been here!

Vasos Papageorgiou from Cyprus University of Technology was with GÉANT at our Amsterdam office, to learn and exchange knowledge in the course of three days. Following on from the questions we asked on his first day, we then asked him to share how he had experienced his time here.

“First of all, I would like to thank the GÉANT Learning and Development (GLAD) team, and in particular Nadia Sluer and Irina Mikhailava for organising and supporting my visit, it wouldn’t have been possible without their kind help. My visit to the GÉANT Amsterdam office has been a great experience, as I got to meet so many amazing, friendly and helpful people. During my stay I have had thorough sessions with a variety of staff on the following topics:

  • GÉANT organisation in general (NRENs, communication channels, board committee etc.)
  • Trust and Identity
  • Task Forces and Special Interest Groups
  • Security
  • Up2U project
  • IT
  • GDPR

As I work at the IT department of the university, it was particularly interesting to have a video conference call with the Head of IT, who is based in GÉANT’s Cambridge office. We discussed challenges, problems and new technologies in the IT environment. I look forward to sharing the knowledge gained with my colleagues back in Cyprus. I will consolidate the great amount of information I have gathered and plan to do a presentation to my team.

Lastly, I was advised by a colleague who had a similar experience a few years ago, and I must say I am very happy to have received this recommendation. I couldn’t have spent my Erasmus Mobility Week at a more inspiring place!
